A History of Stupidity

Over the last hundred years or more humanity has learned a lot more about itself, the biology of the brain and behaviour. So we, at Pitchdrop are authoring a revisionist history, not a geo-political history, rather a behavioural one, one that asks the audience to see the patterns of the past as examples of behaviours and disordered thinking present in human nature. Albeit the most troublesome disorders are confined to a small number of our overall population, but they exert power and influence thus determining some of the worst behaviours of the whole.

We will be looking at Humans who make stupid decisions (unbeneficial to almost everyone) and at the structural and institutional delusions that have formed environments for stupidity, delusion and wickedness to thrive. Whether it be societies or individual agents of stupid. Postings will generally speak to specific socio-psychological or biological roots that determine our stupidity and the unfortunate repetition of mistakes and calamities because we fail to mitigate against the parts of our nature that create harm.

Why is this important? As humans are displaced by both Climate Crisis and the inevitable cruelties of decreasing resources we will be confronted with a choice of compassion. Should power and action be compassionate or cruel? Irrational or rational?
